The S73&400 IO server supports polling data from S7-300, -400, -1200, and -1500 PLCs from Siemens.

For Ewon devices including an MPI port, the S73&400 IO server also allows the Ewon device to act as an Ethernet to MPI/Profibus gateway for remote maintenance of the PLCs.

For polling data from an S7-200 PLC, see the S7200 IO server page.

The Gateway Configuration, MPI/PROFIBUS Setup, and Advanced Routing sections of the IO server setup screen only appears if your hardware configuration includes an MPI port.

Gateway Configuration (MPI and Profibus only)

The Gateway Configuration section of the IO server setup screen only appears if your hardware configuration includes a serial or MPI port.

Destination MPI/PROFIBUS Node

set the Destination MPI/PROFIBUS Node value to be the identifier for the PLC when the Ewon device is acting as an ISOTCP to MPI/PROFIBUS gateway.

Communication Setup (MPI Only)

Protocol Type

Select the protocol to communicate with your PLC.

Baudrate

Set the Baudrate as required to match the settings in your PLC.

MPI/PROFIBUS Address

Set the MPI/PROFIBUS Address field to be the address for the Ewon device on the MPI link.

MPI/PROFIBUS Highest Station Address

Enter the highest station address polled by the Ewon device in the MPI/PROFIBUS Highest Station Address field.

Advanced Routing

The Advanced Routing setup items are only visible when the Enabled checkbox is checked.

The Advanced Routing feature allows you to access devices that are part of another MPI/Profibus network connected indirectly to the Ewon device through another PLC.

Gateway Destination S7 Subnet ID

The value in the Gateway Destination S7 Subnet ID field is used when no subnet ID is specified in the ISOTCP message to relay on the MPI bus.

ISOTCP S7 Subnet ID

Holds the Ewon devices subnet ID on the ISOTCP interface side.

MPI/PROFIBUS S7 Subnet ID

Holds the Ewon devices subnet ID on the ISOTCP interface side.

Default Next MPI/PROFIBUS Node

The default next MPI/PROFIBUS node field holds the default MPI node to use if the destination subnet ID specified is neither the one of the Ewon device or one specified in the gateway entries.

Gateway Entries

The Destination S7 Subnet ID and its corresponding MPI/Profibus Node.

MPI messages with this destination subnet ID will be forwarded to the MPI/Profibus node.

Topic Configuration

Topics give common properties to groups of S7300-400 tags such as whether polling is enabled or disabled for these tags, their poll rate, and the destination device type and address.

Global Device Address

The Global Device Address is a global parameter that identifies the device to be polled.

If an address is specified here, it will replace (overload) the address defined at the tag level.

Clicking in this field will enable an address helper to assist with selecting the appropriate address syntax for your device.

The syntax is based on the protocol (MPI, PROFIBUS, or ISOTCP) used to communicate with the PLC.

Valid formats include:

  • MPI,MPI address
  • PROFIBUS, Profibus address
  • MPI, Subnet ID, MPI address (MPI using the Advanced Routing Setup)
  • ISOTCP, IP address, CalledTSAP
  • ISOTCP, IP address, CalledTSAP, Subnet ID, MPI node address

When the address entered is a valid syntax, the contents of the field will appear green. When the syntax is invalid, the contents of the field will appear in red.

Poll rate

Defines the refresh rate of the tag name.

Enter the refresh rate in ms (milliseconds) for the tags associated with this topic. The default value is 2000 ms (2 seconds).

More detailed information about polling tags from Siemens PLCs is available for MPI/PROFIBUS devices and for Ethernet devices.
