Screenshot of Ewon device's web interface

The S7200 IO server supports polling data from S7-200 PLCs from Siemens.

For Ewon devices including an MPI port or serial port, the S7200 IO server also allows the Ewon device to act as an ISOTCP to PPI gateway.

For polling data from an S7-300, 400, 1200, or 1500 PLC, see the S73&400 IO server page.

Gateway Configuration (MPI and Serial only)

The Gateway Configuration section of the IO server setup screen only appears if your hardware configuration includes a serial or MPI port.

Destination PPI Address

Set the destination PPI address value to be the identifier for the PLC when the Ewon device is acting as an ISOTCP to MPI/PROFIBUS gateway.

Communication Setup (MPI Only)

MPI/PROFIBUS/PPI MultiMaster Setup section of the IO server setup screen only appears if your hardware configuration includes an MPI port.

Protocol Type

Select PPI MULTIMASTER as the protocol to communicate with your PLC.

Baudrate

Set the Baudrate as required to match the settings in your PLC.

MPI/PROFIBUS/PPI MultiMaster Address

Set the MPI/PROFIBUS/PPI MultiMaster Address field to be the address for the Ewon device on the PPI link.

MPI/PROFIBUS/PPI MultiMaster Highest Station Address

Enter the highest station address polled by the Ewon device in the MPI/PROFIBUS/PPI MultiMaster Highest Station Address field.

COM Setup (MPI Only)

The COM Setup portion of the IO Server setup screen only appears if your hardware configuration includes a serial port.

The serial port on the Ewon device must be in RS485 mode.
For the FLA 3301 – 2 Serial Port Extension card:

  • Port S2 is fixed RS232 mode.
  • Port S1 is configurable with dip switches.

Additional configuration may also be required through the web interface in the Serial ports page.

Communication Setup

The serial port on the Ewon device must be in RS422 mode.
For the FLA 3301 – 2 Serial Port Extension card:

  • Port S2 is fixed RS232 mode.
  • Port S1 is configurable with dip switches.

Additional configuration may also be required through the web interface in the Serial ports page.

COM Port

Physical COM port allocated to the S7200 IO server. The numbering of the serial COM ports starts with the serial port of the Base Unit (if available) and then continues with the upper port of the first Extension Module starting from the left.

Set the COM Port to the port to which the PLC is connected.

Baudrate

Set the baudrate as required to match the settings in your PLC.

Parity

The parity to apply: none / odd / even.

Set the parity as required to match the settings in your PLC.

DataBits

Set the databits as required to match the settings in your PLC.

HW mode

Set the Hardware Mode to match the settings in your PLC.

The Ewon device with a serial port can act as a monoMaster or communicate on a PPI multiMaster bus. If you are configuring the serial port as PPI MultiMaster, you need to configure PPI Address and Highest Station Address fields.

Topic Configuration

Topics give common properties to groups of S7200 tags such as whether polling is enabled or disabled for these tags, their poll rate, and the destination device type and address.

Global Device Address

The Global Device Address is a global parameter that identifies the device to be polled.

If an address is specified here, it will replace (overload) the address defined at the tag level.

Clicking in this field will enable an address helper to assist with selecting the appropriate address syntax for your device.

The syntax is based on the protocol (PPI or ISOTCP) used to communicate with the PLC.

Valid formats include:

  • PPI,PPI node address
  • ISOTCP, IP address, CalledTSAP

When the address entered is a valid syntax, the contents of the field will appear green. When the syntax is invalid, the contents of the field will appear in red.

Poll rate

Defines the refresh rate of the tag name.

Enter the refresh rate in ms (milliseconds) for the tags associated with this topic. The default value is 2000 ms (2 seconds).

More information about these parameters and the S7200 IO server tags can be found in the RG-0007-00 - IO Servers.
