The i4connected event management functionalities allow the users to manage the actual event definitions from the database.

The Events functionality of the i4connected portal covers all the regular event occurrences inside the i4connected system.

Based on the i4connected events workflow, there are two separate denominations that are used throughout the portal and this topic:

  • Events - An event is an abstract definition of a possible situation. It is not tied to a specific scenario or device but can be associated with an event script.

  • Event occurrences - An event occurrence is the actual manifestation of an event definition when triggered manually or by an associated event script.

To sum up, an event is an abstract definition of a scenario while an occurrence is the manifestation of the event.


The same event can not have multiple occurrences. In order for an occurrence to be triggered for the same event, the previous occurrence should be closed.

The list of Events can be accessed by clicking the Events tile by all system users, regardless of their permissions set.

Events are displayed as cards in a scrollable list. Each Event card displays the following information:

  • Name or Alias

  • Event type icon

  • Event group

  • Priority

  • The existence of an interval (Acknowledge, Ownership or Close interval)

The list of events features a complex filtering mechanism, that allows the user to easily pinpoint the desired Event.

The Events list can be manually updated/reloaded by clicking the Refresh toolbar button.

Adding a new Event definition

The Events panel allows the user the possibility to create new Events by clicking the Add toolbar button. The Add new Event functionality is only available for users having the Manage Events permission enabled.

The Add event panel features the following Event properties:

  • Name - the name of the event. This field is mandatory.

  • Alias - the friendly name of the event. The events with an Alias, will by default display the Alias, instead of the Name.

  • Description - the description of the event.

  • Event cause - the description of the cause of the current event.

  • Event effect - the description of the effect that the current event has.

  • Event repair - the description of the mitigation procedure for the current event.

  • Help link - the link leading to the documentation that provides help for the current event.

  • Enable event queries - enables additional query processing for the event. The user should enable this setting only if it is necessary to run additional queries in the post-processing pipeline for this event.

  • Manual Event - enables the possibility to manually trigger the event. The user should enable this setting only if it is necessary to manually create an occurrence of that event.

  • Acknowledge interval - enables an acknowledge monitoring interval.

    • Insert acknowledge interval - allows the user to set the acknowledge interval (number of Days, Hours, and Minutes).

  • Ownership interval - enables an ownership monitoring interval.

    • Insert ownership time - allows the user to set the ownership interval (number of Days, Hours, and Minutes).

  • Close interval - enables a close monitoring interval.

    • Insert close interval - allows the user to set the close interval (number of Days, Hours, and Minutes).

  • Event priority - the event priority. The priority can be chosen using the Priorities panel.

  • Event type - the event type. The type can be selected from the Event types panel.

  • Event group - the group to which the event belongs. The group can be selected by marking the radio button of the desired group. Due to the inheritance mechanism, selecting a derived group enables the assignment of the parent group as well.

After all the Event information has been filled in the user can decide to preserve the new event, by pressing the Save button, or to Close the panel without saving.

Editing a listed Event

Users having the Manage events permission enabled can also change an Event setting, by clicking on the Event card that requires changes.

In the Edit event panel, all the information of an event can be changed as desired.

By pressing the Save button all the changes are applied. Pressing the Close button will close the Edit event panel without preserving any changes.

Deleting Events

Users having the Manage events permission enabled can remove redundant Event, by clicking the Delete button located in the toolbar of the Edit event panel.

The Delete event panel provides information concerning the impact of the deletion operation. To confirm the deletion, the user is required to manually type in the provided code.

As soon as the Delete button is selected, the event will be completely removed from the Events panel.
