Description

The error 3706 - Error while connecting to the default database server: Provider cannot be found may be encountered in WEBfactory 2010Activity Analyzer during the WEBfactory 2010 Server startup.

Cause

The error 3706 - Provider cannot be found is caused by the missing SQL NativeClient version 10.x on the machine where WEBfactory 2010 was installed. Usually this error occurs when installing WEBfactory 2010 on a fresh machine running Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and using the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2012 Express.

The error occurs because both Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 Express editions come with SQL NativeClient version 11.x, whereas WEBfactory 2010 requires SQL NativeClient version 10.x to run.

Solution

To overcome this error, please install SQL NativeClient version 10.x from the WEBfactory 2010 installation disk.

The SQL NativeClient version 10.x installer is named sqlncli.msi can be found here:

  • WEBfactory installation CD\Tools\SQL Server 2008 Native Client\X86\ for 32 bits machines

  • WEBfactory installation CD\Tools\SQL Server 2008 Native Client\X64\ for 64 bits machines
